Travel: South Africa’s Indian Ocean Coast

Homebreaks – no place like home

One of our favourite parts of the South African coast is the relatively unknown stretch from the Garden Route to East London on the East Coast. Buffels Bay, Brenton Beach, Plettenberg Bay, St Francis, JBay, Blue Horizon Bay, Canon Rocks, Nahoon Beach, Gonubie, GlenGarriff, Queensberry Bay, Cintsa. That is not to say that the rest of the coast is anything but spectacular,  just that to us there is something particularly appealing about these beaches. Unspoilt, empty beaches with warm enough water and some of the finest wind and surf conditions in the world year round. A rugged and unforgiving coastline dotted with shipwrecks, this is a shoreline characterised by vast stretches of golden sand and the power of the Indian Ocean … where you hear the crashing waves long before you see them.
